Circles on computers are never ever 'real' circles but always irregular polygons.
If you take a closer look on RailRoadEngineer's model you can see those with 24 sides and a well placed smoothing...

there is no circles in 3d as they are all made up of triangles.
update - brake pipes have been added to the locomotive.

Wow! When I saw the first picture I wasn't prepared for the second! Great job both with the carriage and with the aging and weathering!
