Newbie question: DLS content for TRS2006 ?

I recently received TRS2006 as a gift, and I have had fun with the built-in items. I decided to venture into the DLS to find custom items. I am confused about the different versions: TRS2006, TRS2004, Classic Trainz, Ultimate Trainz, etc, etc,. Every DLS item has a Trainz version mentioned. Is there a guide or clue as to what Trainz versions will work in TRS2006 ?

I have found that most stuff 06 and below works for 06. I believe TC is after 06.

Anything labelled trs2006, trs2004, UTC, Trainz and preSP3 Trainz so tick those boxes.

There are some errors in the user created content that may show up in TRS2006. TC1/2 you can basically ignore, TC3 is UK stuff but also has a more recent game engine so if you are into any Steam Locos then it maybe of interest. You will almost certainly have to get your hands dirty to fix up the config.txt files to make the steam locos work correctly in TC3.

Differences well when you make content sometimes you need a feature that is in TRS2006 such as a script, so you set it's version to TRS2006. However a scenery object is much simpler so will work in UTC, TRS2004, TRS2006 etc. without any problems.

The jury is still out on TRS2009 but it does offer better frame rates for some if you have a dual or quad core processor.

If you have less than 2.5 gigs of memory buy more memory.

Thank you very much for the explanations and help, especially the links for newcomer notes. I am running Vista and followed the install instructions in the manual. So far, I have only had one "freeze". I will probably re-install following the suggestions in the link you provided.

Right now, I am most interested in US diesel trains (trainz ), primarily western US.

I'd stick with TRS2006 for the moment and explore you can always try the other versions later on.
