Still think that the "registers owners of Trainz products only" being the only ones permitted to post is the better answer. Don't think many people will want to continuously spend money to buy new copies to make fools of themselves. Then we only need one open forum for guests who want to ask questions before buying.

Meanwhile, hope the mods can stay on top of this now that they are aware of the situation.

We need more moderators!

Yes I think so too. All of the moderators should "get together" and pick maybe a few they think are qualified to be a mod. But I do not think they should pick someone that says "vote for me" or things like that. I think it should be more experienced users on this forum and those who know how thing are done around here. But this is just an idea.

Matt

EDIT: I have a better idea. What if the mods each picked one person they thought were qualified to do the job with the same requirements above and beyond that. That way we could have double the mods and they could take turns being logged on.

Hi Matt // All
If I can add to your suggestion, as we all live in democratic countries ( I think), perhaps a poll could be started where us end-users can nominate a person they think would suit the bill. I'm sure that each of us know of such a person.
The moderators could then look at the top few nominees, and ask them if they want the post and if they have the time to commit themselves to it.
Doing it this way, perhaps they could 'run' for a year or so and step down if they wanted and others could be 'voted' in to take their place.
Of course, no-one will be able to nominate themselves and each participating user would only have one vote.
It would also save the old argument, 'Why pick him/her, I've been here longer or I've made more post Etc".

Just a thought. What do the powers that be think?

Cheers
Pete.

Hello Pete,
I think that is a wonderful idea. Yes I think the mods should consider this. And if this goes through, we should vote on 1 day so that people have exactly 24 hours to vote.

Matt

If you search the forum, you will find the procedure for submitting a desire to become a moderator.
Voting isn't it. Not too long ago, it looked like a mod position was open and people started self-nominating in seperate topics cluttering up the forum that resulted in irritating a large number of other members who requested an end to nominations and voting.
You send requests through HelpDesk.

I just decided...

 No-spell checking-especially when there is a spell checker right on the advanced posting window...

Bad grammar...psychotic punctuation.

21 year old's that don't have a clue what a paragraph is...

Complaining about a pre-release of a software...that was offered to all members unilaterally for BETA testing...

A dozen different titles of questions already asked & answered...

I find all these Offensive & Abusive Posts!

but I might want to cut people some slack for repetitive Q&A. The search message function still leaves a lot to be desired. Unless you already know the answer, entering the words that will find the answer you need can be a bit of a hit and miss operation. :)

...I'm cool with that...

 Thanks Martin,

Newbies need links to answers...a lot of times the answers are in written directions, sometimes they're are tutorials.

I found doing my "homework" before posting always at least got me on the same page as the ones seeking to help me.

Sometimes, like changing hornsounds, the question is very technical & you can mess someone up quick...

Quick answers only help for a moment. I have a list of links I refer to & post for others when "search" doesn't find a solution.

Hi B.Y.

While I agree with the majority of your post, we have to make a few allowances with the 'Bad Grammar'. For a few dedicated users of this Forum, English isn't their first language.
Personally, I would prefer someone who struggles with English to 'have a go' rather than shy away in the background.

Cheers
Pete

No paragraphs from me in this post and everthing will just run on. As regards spelling English is a strange language to undtand especially if English is not you firts language. Typing quickly causes many errors. No paragraphs because Java Script Disbaled in Firefox.

...they know who they are...

 Thanks Barry,

Whilst I recognize FireFox is a noted web browser, I enjoy Java-script in IE-7.

American English as a second language usually is recognizable. I can work with that.

Yes, American English is the most difficult language in the world to understand, what with all the colloquialisms & regional dialects of American English...

I'm talking about Americans that have been to school & have no excuse for bad grammar, mis-spelled words, etc.

DNutter has taught all of us to examine closely for the substance & meaning of text...he has never heard anyone use any kind of language, therefore American Sign Language is his method of speaking & writing. There are several members who use this method, so kudos to David for understanding whilst we were learning to not judge him by his text...

Amen !

I reported the post 5 minutes after it was posted , Tony was online , and he made an unrelated post 5 minutes after that . Then I reported the 2nd offensive post , Tony was still online . Some 3 hours later it was finally deleted !
And these posts were not simple attacks , but porno pictures !
That truly sucks!!! I am 14 but my parents are very concerned about me and weren't going to let me get on this site but I talked them into it. I hope things like this don't come up often or I'll be gone! I hate porn it is unacceptable and and an act of true stupidy. If moderator pay attention to this site thats one thing, but how about doing a good job, don't get me wrong now, I'm just stating that some improvements HAVE to be made or this will turn into another dangerous site, like MySpace. If Tony Hilliam wans to keep a forum community, then these improvements need to be made.
Here's to a clean forum community, Cheers, Woody.:'(

I remember a quote from a movie...

The movie was about if the South had won the Civil War, and slavery had continued into the 21st century.

"The internet has provided a rebirth for slave trading, behind porn, its the top selling thing on the internet."

Sadly, thats just the truth, nothing anyone can do about it, except clean it up whenever it pops up. I manage my own forum as well, and boy it can be hard at times.

IC,

I can really appreciate your concern. I've been viewing this forum since....I'm guessing 2004..... and have never seen any porn slip through. I'm glad you have parents that care.

It's hard enough being a teenager, and then have be subjected to the kind of filth that's being circulated through the media and internet these days. You just have to rise above it and don't let it bring you down.

I think the moderators here do a commendable job protecting the integrity of these forums.

The Mods do a good and fair job from what I have seen over the years the Idiots that have been banned or repromanded only have themselves to blame
"And these posts were not simple attacks , but porno pictures !"........
and I missed them ......................:p

For the person(s) that did this, it's like this forum became a boxcar for their internet graffiti.
