Morning all:wave:

I woke up this morning to something I don't recall seeing the night before, Ads by Google bits pasted to the forum banner with such lucrative advertisements as 'ProTee Golf Simulators' and 'Tudor Swiss Watches'. Must Auran let this intrusive, hideous peddling of wares into their own forums? I can't help but wonder why, I can't even see the companies that paid for these ads making any money off of this. The only thing I think would be amusing is if I saw an advertisement for Rail Simulator, that'd be the day...

Interesting... I left for work at 11 pm US time here in the states, had a short night and was home at 2:30 am and there were the ads...

Ads here for me aswell. Remeber last time auran had ads on the DLS and forum, one advertised a warez site were you download Trainz for free:eek:

I've got ads here. They seem to have appeared during the 17th and 18th (Today) of August.

There are a few advertisements for Trainz.

Commercial crass?

Good morning,

A funny thing happened on my way to the Forum. I found this as I was taking my first sip of coffee. Choked on it.

WileeCoyote, you beat me to it. The site I edit has rejected inflicting the Google ad-nauseum on its visitors, with good reason. When we looked into it we found the ill will that would be generated far outweighed the few cents the program would return, and we would have practically no say in what appeared. The revenue Auran is going to get from this probably won't cover their budget for napkins in the lunchroom.

I hope your thread becomes a long, loud petition to get rid of it and that Auran notices. If they want to do this they should do it on the Auran site, which is in the business of selling things, not the Forum.

Bernie

If Auran can recover some of the cost for running the Forum why not?
For our purchase of programme we have an ongoing very helpful Forum.

Are we prepared to subscribe I wonder?

No, apparently it requires three. The one in General Trainz was the first one though....:hehe:

Morning Wolfgang,

ermmmm, well, actually it's called the free market, and Trainz shouldn't be immune from commercialism, so I would imagine it's here to stay for a while I guess. As long as it keeps the price of the FCT at its current value, I think it is an astute move by Auran......it's not too obtrusive, and it's not compulsory that you read the damn thing......And I would also imagine that it's on this forum, because this gets more hits than their website, so it's in a more prominent position.

TTFN.

I have one question... Does Auran get money just for posting the ads, or do they only get paid when someone clicks on them?

What hideous thinks!! They are runing the banner I like so much.:( :p

Why would Auran do this?? The curb appeal of this forum in my opinion just dropped by 50%!! Not that it has been for the past few months anyway...

My 2 cents.

Cheers,
Adam

No, seriously.

It's a tiny ad on the top of the screen.

I didn't notice it until someone pointed it out.

Please, can we stop overreacting? It ain't the end of the world or something.

All the ones I see have ads for something Train related, nothing else.
Similar to how railroad and model magazines have ads.
Don't see the issue.
I could understand if it was like the ones I get even on some third party sites where you open the site and some window slides over in the middle of your screen advertising animated smileys or a dating site and it stays there unless you close the window. Or like geocities where when you go to one of their user sites, the right side of your screen has adds and the page display is messed up.
This is no big deal.

I wonder whether the planned in-game browser facility for TS2009 will also make use of Google ads.
Tony has already hinted over at the DEV site that they are considering using something similar in the TRS2009 browser for Freeware and Payware, so maybe.

BTW, where are these ads supposed to be?
I don't see them.

Smiley.

Edit: I've just checked the page source and I see the code for the google ads, but they don't show up in my browser.
I guess ZoneAlarm is taking care of them. lol

Right next to the Trainz Classics logo at the top of the forum page, but if you have javascript off you probably don't see it.

Regarding Tony and the dev site ... I don't believe a single word the man utters because he is also the one who, time and again, told all the fans that Fury would be a success ... just until he, with only two days notice, pulled the plug on the game, the forum and the fans.
