Marcus,

Some say that fog covers a multitude of "sins," but in this case, that foggy environment really adds to the realism with great effect. Nice screenshot!

Low graphics quality, poorly detailed background scenery assets or textures, incomplete scenes, etc.
Yep.

Isn't that the typical criticism against competing train sims (and, I'm sure has been aimed at Trainz enough already)? "Add enough fog and it's bound to look good..."

I was pointing out that, in this case, the fog is adding to, not concealing...

@TP14

"255,255,255"...

That's a great shot, as always. Just a word of advice here, the headlights on that GP50 are way too yellow. If you're feeling up to some config file editing, go in and change the light color values to the numbers I listed above.

If done right, they will show as the proper white color.

Matt

If anyone wants them I also have prototypical light coding for the HP Trainz GP38-2 to match the bright white that BNSF has on their geeps. IMO, the headlights were too yellow.

Thanks, I might mess with it at some point. I just have been kind of busy the other aspects of Trainz to actually worry about small (but important) details like that, maybe if I remember and are bored enough, I'll give it a go. I do agree the lights could use some tuning, but maybe later...

Thanks!

To shed some light about concealing quality of work vs added environmental effect: It's a bit of both. There is more to see there but it is somewhat incomplete and pretty boring. I also love heavy fog and the area I am making is a coastal bay that suffers from this sort of weather on a regular basis.

EDIT: Somewhat unrelated to that shot (same route, different location) some more detailed shots of a yard to yard transfer.

First, collecting the train from initial location (the SD70M and Dash 9) while another is dropped off (the two GP38-2's in the background).

Then the first train arriving at new location.

Finally, a view of the second train returning from within the larger yard.
