It isn't unheard of in the US, but it is fairly rare. The combination of sharp turns and two-axle equipment is usually the reason they are elsewhere.

NS 234 blast under the CSX A-Line at Collier, Va enroute to Norfolk

As 234 heads east, G533 creeps on up to the interlocking at North Collier.

G533 stops just short of the signal (Out of frame behind me) with a Mac duo.
