We are at Brighton Park, it is 8:30 am on a weekday and the Western Avenue corridor is abundant with through freights, stack trains and odd transfers.
Two stack trains have already slowly made their way towards the CNW at Global 1/Wood Street when two more patrons show up to wait their turn
across the manually interlocked diamonds protecting the former GM&O from the former Chicago Junction, B&OCT, and Pennsy Panhandle mains.
CLW B-DUCO, a late mixed freight from Dubuque, Iowa, waits in line with a Silver Lines switcher hop to Ashland Avenue Yard from IMX trailer ramp.
Large and tiny, the two trains are barred from proceeding by a intricate set of interlocker semaphore signals (out of frame) from the early twentieth century.
All trains are required to stop at stop posts and wait for opposing movements to clear before being ushered through by the switchtender under blades.
A CNW stack transfer from CSX' 59th Street Yard will soon join the waiting party, right before the westbound Amtrak Lincoln Service no.303 clatters over
three different pairs of tracks on the Joliet Division.
