June 1982. We’re hanging out on the 23rd St overpass near BN’s Interbay roundhouse on a tip the first New West train has a pair of increasingly rare F-units leading. Well we just missed it, but it developed an air problem and is now blocking the main through Balmer. While we’re debating going to find those F-units near downtown, we can hear locomotives coming downhill from bridge 3.2. The railfan gods were not smiling on us and the photos didn’t turn out, but these two were passable.

Tthe daily southbound New Westminster train holding the main at Interbay with air problems while Extra 6634 West waits for yarding instructions from the Balmer yardmaster.

Last shot (that turned out) we took before finding those darned F-units. Though the 6634’s fireman told us they might be around mp 1.7.
