USA Pics

Always amazed by some of the shots I've seen here, the realism is incredible.

Here are some images from my WIP American Midwest Route. It's loosely based on the area around South Bend Indiana, my hometown. Era is fluid as is equipment used. I'm a beginning route builder and have so much to learn still but that's the fun part!

Nice shots sullivjs. Are you sure you are just beginning? I especially like the CN led train going past the junkyard.

Dang those are all some nice looking screen shots. Nice work everyone.

(guess no one wanted to come watch that ball game tho!)

Pardon the unfinished areas in these shots, this route is very much a WiP:

CNJ symbol freight AC3 (Allentown to Scranton) is about to pass under the Clark St. overpass in West Lorraine, PA. On the left is the LC&N's West Lorraine coal dealership, and at right is the former CNJ West Lorraine freight depot, now operated by the Red Oak Freight Forwarding Co.

As AC3 hangs a left into the large cut, a LE&E transfer run from the Lehigh Valley's 6th St. yard weaves its way down the grade towards the LE&E's Scranton Division mainline.

Crossing over to track 1, the train continues on towards the LE&E's Riverside yard in Lorraine. The modern power on this train suggests that this power set will eventually continue on freight LM-2 (Lorraine to Maybrook) after a block swap with NY-6 (Elmira - New York). Although the LE&E's mainline to Boston provided a faster connection to the Bay State from the west, the LE&E's line to Maybrook and the connection with the NYNH&H (inherited from the NYR&O) continued to be the LE&E's preferred outlet for slower coal traffic, freeing up space on the still fairly congested mainline for faster through freights.

Ducking under the CNJ bridge, the freight passes combined train numbers 118/18, the eastbound Pocono/Scrantonite at the Lorraine depot. Although formerly two independent overnight trains from Cincinnati and Chicago, respectively, to Scranton, by 1956 had been rescheduled to a meandering daytime run handling mostly mail and express. West of Elmira, New York, both by this date have already been combined with a number of other trains forwarding their cars to the Queen and Windy Cities. In a few more months, the trains would lose their names, switch numbers, and lose their through connections entirely. Freight traffic on the Scranton and New York divisions would die a much slower death, however. Cutbacks in 1964 and 1968 would see the line single tracked and rationalized. Hurricane Agnes would severely damage the line in 1972, with the final nail in the coffin coming in 1974 with the burning of the Poughkeepsie bridge, severing the Maybrook connection. In 1975, the LE&E finally gained permission to abandon most of the Scranton and New York divisions, retaining only the through route to the New York City area and little else.

Flusi737,
Crazy shots of your route! Which one is that, a WIP? It reminds me a little of the Jersey City Pennsy - LIRR dock area. Love the warships.

Now that this brand new class of 2-6-0 moguls has been painted after being built, it was later seen loading a train of coal hoppers at the mine bound for various industries that's a very high demand for the black diamonds.

Thanks ;) Thats what i called "Empire City", like the City in Mafia II, which is where i got the idea from. And their City was based on NYC...so, thats what i'm trying to do in a fictional way :D
