The legendary "Demon" Clinchfield 311 has given a fresh makeover in the style of Steve Lerro. Here, on lease to the CRR from the Frisco, 311 hauls a caboose and some 55 ton coal cars out of a tunnel in a mountain pass alongside a river.

Thank you for the detailed reply and pictures. That’s ABBAsolutely fantastic. I wish we had a direct control on the opacity of the water instead of needing to fake it indirectly by manipulating sky and ground.

Late September, 1982. An early morning finds RPPX GP9 #2500 with a short train pausing for a moment alongside the long-silent N&W SD9 #2348 and its accompanying caboose, as the brakeman throws the switches ahead for the coal tipple. Coal traffic has declined in this part of Virginia, and the formerly busy line has slowly decreased in traffic. Now only mixed freights run, with stops at the coal tipples only as needed.

The engineer stops short of the road to open the gate, and then proceeds to couple.

Once connected, the locomotive moves out.
