Paging Misterchugg and others who are historical minded. 50 years ago today the Fassifern line and the Southport Beenleigh part of the South Coast Line closed. Railcars 2002 and 2003 left Southport shortly after 8pm and at 8:35pm PB15 570 and attached 749 hauled the last goods that collected removable items from the stations.
QR closures 1964; 30th April 1964 - the Ernest Junction - Nerang, Birru - Marburg, Acland-Cooyar and the Wallaville-lnnes sections, the Haden and Killarney branches and the Mount Molloy railway to Rumula. On the 15th June the Wallaville branch was closed.
The lines closed on the 30th June 1964 were Loamside - Dugandan, Wamuran-Kilcoy, Kingaroy-Nanango, the Isis branch, Sleipner-Emu Park, Kairi-Millaa Millaa and Beenleigh to Southport. 30th June, 1964 - 30th June 2014 - 50 Years Since The Last Train From Southport

Hello Everyone,

I am going with the notion of the last passenger from Southport, which Petan has kindly noted - today is a red letter day in the Railways of Queensland when many branches closed; ever more so it is the last formal day of operations of the South Coast Railway from Beenleigh to Southport & Nerang. I have recreated those events to mark the passing of the railway with the final ever passenger using 2000 class Railmotors; 2002 and 2003 at 8:01pm in the evening and the final goods behind PB15 570 + 749 to collect removable items from stations.

With Regards,

I hope you remembered the detonators that went of as the RM's traversed over them. Could you believe that residence at South Brisbane could here the detonators go of. There were also many last attempts to save the South Coast Railway.

30th June 1964 - The end of the South Coast Railway and many other branchlines

Just thought I might continue on with Michaels post by posting some screenshots of the last goods train on the South Coast Railway. Here we see PB15's 570 and 749 which were sent to collect any removable items from stations, pausing at Bethania, The junction of the Beaudesert Branch.

PB15's 570 & 749 crossing the Logan River bridge

Shall we also remember all the other branch lines that closed on this day, 50 years ago. Loamside - Dugandan on the Fassifern Branch, Nanango Branch, Wamuran - Kilcoy, Isis Branch, Sleipner - Emu Park and Kairi - Millaa Millaa. All these branches had been swept under the carpet to be forgotten, on this day 50 years ago.

- Cheers

Hey all,

Y 445 Painted in Canadian Red, I don't know about the front end.... but it was built like that by Kitson & Co, Leeds 1888, I know a photo in the 1920s shows it removed, I think it might have been removed when it was reboilered between 1905-1908, this model represents 1903-1906, although it might have been removed in 1889, got no idea, lol, I'm lacking research :(

Just downloaded a couple of hoppers by John_sb and they have a error i have not come across before "Incorrect number of values for the Tag 'Repeat-Delay', expected 2 values,Found 1, <Kuid2:60318:60001:2> QR VNQB Coal Hopper is one of the two and i was wondering if anyone here knew what this error means in plain easy to understand and fix English please ?.
Cheers Mick.

I usually find with that sort of thing, I just open it in CCP, find the relevant tag, and count the values. Often, it will sort itself out, without me having to change anything.

Thanks Rex but no amount of leaving it alone or opening it for edit would sort it self out doesn't matter anyway i'll just give it a miss. Whilst i'm here i'll throw this one up.

The eager enthusiast waits patiently at the cutting.

Moments later, recently restored and on loan to the Yarra Valley Railway, S303 passes through the cutting.
