There was a time when many towns had a loco and tender on display either in a park or at the fairgrounds. Here is one in front of this small town's Historic Society Museum. Rotate the view and you see a couple of more beauties.

Yes, there's some beautiful stuff there including that general store with its rusty tin roof. The stuffed NG Shay is beautiful as well and so is the caboose.

The locomotive in Coulterville is not a shay. It is a 8 ton Porter 0-4-0 saddle tank locomotive.

I have to drive by this car wash quite often. You can see that someone tried to make it look like a steam locomotive but failed.

Along with the spirit of the Original Post, here is the Boise Train Terminal. Used up until the 1990s when Amtrak dropped Boise. Preserved ever since, used for events, and we all hope Biden's infrastructure invesments might bring Amtrak back!

Well partly due to closure of the car factories 2/3 of the Detroit population have left. In Detroit they have this crazy idea where if you abandon your home with outstanding tax or utility bills, anyone buying the house has to pay those bills off. Meanwhile scrap metal thieves grab the plumbing and electrical wire so the house is uninhabitable the next day.
