Default Is it okay for me to suggest recommendations for content creators?

I'm just wondering, is it okay if I can suggest recommendations for content creators? Whether they decide to make it Freeware or Payware? I've got some specifications I want for certain locomotives, but I would like to get people's opinions on whether it is okay for me to ask people to create models, and we all have varying reasons why we can't, and I have my handful.

You can always aske, but you need to say what Trainz it would be for and what it is.

To create good content a creator needs photos, plans, both front and side on, textures are important as well. Currently there are probably a couple of dozen active content creators, each probably has their own to do list. If you're interested in something they're interested in they may add it to their list. Recognise it can take a year to build to complex model. If you look at trainz carriage works we have people who are the technical authority, ie have the ideas and plans, those who build meshes, those who build engine specs, and those who do very good textures.

Payware? A reasonable wage would be what $50 an hour? Estimate 200 hours but it could take longer, especially with a good beta tester so a reasonable cost would be $1,000 then you get the distribution costs. Don't forget you're probably working by yourself so don't have a group to help out with specialised bits, so those bits will take you longer. Given the number of high quality freeware locos you probably aren't going to make a fortune in payware. Payware is a bit variable, some is high quality some is not so high quality. Some projects start in a burst of enthusiasm then grind to a halt as reality and just what is required to make this thing work in Trainz. Some content creators will take commissions but often they move on to create content for other platforms that have less freeware available.

So yes list which you'd like to have built and show what you have and you might be lucky especially if someone has something similar already built. Then it's clone the old and hack it a bit.

There is nothing wrong with asking as long as you do it politely and understand the time and effort that goes into creating an asset for Trainz. John gives good advice in his post above.

Locos are the hardest and most demanding to create and, as has been pointed out, can easily take a year or more to create.

Unfortunately some requests are more like demands and will receive a suitable response from creators.

I understand, I honestly really DO want to create my own content, and there's handfuls of reasons I can't do them yet (at least). I guess it ultimately depends on my politeness, and the creator's interest, whether they do it for passion, business, or both.

Try something simple like a house first.

    in particular http://doug56.net/Blender2.9+Course00Index/

Starting new I'd go Blender 3.0 and probably .fbx but "TANE has to be SP2 or build 4.4 and up to have the FBX importer in it."

I'm a dummy, too with creating content. All I know how to do is reskin stuff, like buildings and trains. I did import some buildings like hotels and stations from the 3D Warehouse into Trainz using RubyTMIX last year. A few of the hotels are on the DLS. I have a model of the Hoboken Terminal in my Trainz that I didn't upload yet.

Yes but LOD helps performance and your scenery items don't have it. The draw calls at 19 are a bit on the high side again you can throw an RTX 3090 TI at it I suppose. Be nice and try and muddle through with blender. 3D warehouse models aren't optimised for Trainz, by the way they then tend to be a bit poly heavy.
