Route/Session Import to TR22 [solved]

I have one route and a couple of sessions I would like to import into Trainz 2022. How can this be accomplished?

You can use .cdp files to transfer a route and sessions you have created from one version of Trainz to a later version - it does not always work the other way (to an earlier version from a later version). It also does not work for built-in or base assets.

For example:

In TRS19 Content Manager select the route and sessions as a single group and export them as a CDP file (right mouse click and select Export).

In TRS22 Content Manager use the Import Content File.. from the File menu to import them into TRS22. You can also do it individually with separate .cdp files for the route and each session. Any assets (e.g. textures, buildings, splines, etc) that you have used in your route and sessions will be referenced in the .cdp files (their locations, orientations, heights, properties, etc) but they will not be copied in the files so TRS22 will have to download the original assets from the DLS. After importing you may see your routes and sessions labelled as having "missing dependencies". See the Trainz Wiki page at https://online.ts2009.com/mediaWiki...nt_Manager_Status_Labels#Missing_Dependencies for instructions.

If you have created any assets yourself then you will have to transfer them as well by .cdp files.

Hello there,

I am having a problem exporting any of my routes from TRS2019, whenever I select Export CDP the process stops with a "Folder contents are too large for: arc:fld:$(local)/hash-BB [...]".
I read elsewhere that earlier versions of TRS had problems with routes larger than 1Gb - that was back in 2004.
Is this still an issue? And how can I overcome this?

Regards,

A couple of questions.

1. Are you trying to export all the routes as a single .cdp file? If so this may explain why you are getting the "Folder content are too large .." message. Export them individually.

2. What does CM tell you about the File Size of each route? The file size value for installed routes and assets is the unpacked, uncompressed size that the route or asset occupies in Trainz. For assets that are on the DLS (i.e. shown as "Available for Download"), it shows the compressed size of the asset .cdp file.

I just ran a test by exporting my largest Trainz route (971MB) to a .cdp and it exported without any problems to a compressed .cdp file of 560MB.

Hi,

Thanks for answering me.
I am exporting one single route per cdp, but the largest routes suffer the same problem, and there does indeed seem to be a 1Gb limitation.

I picked two of my routes close to the 1Gb /1024Mb limit:
* Nordnorgebanen, file size: 895Mb - this is working.
* Nordlandsbanen, file size: 1053Mb - this fails with "Folder content are to large for ...".
(file sizes as reported by CM)

All maps below 1Gb works (which also includes your map of 971Mb), but maps with a file size above that fails.

However, I found a work-around by simply copying the entire trs19 folder into a (new) trs22 folder and then point the TRS2022 installation to that folder. I still can't make cdp files, but I can at least open and edit my routes now.

Hello,
TRS22 is a nightmare. Transfer route or session is sometime almost impossible. I try since more than a week and it take hours to fix problems. many time the game freeze when i want submit asset that are open for edit. So i have to restart my computer and wait long minutes to rebuilt data base. Every thing was working fine on TRS 19 and i never had so much difficulties. There are no way to find clear and simple explanations. If you are still on TRS 19, STAY ON IT...

There are no problems here with TRS22 acting as you say.

If you are having troubles submitting assets, there could be other issues outside of TRS22 causing this including disk space or problems with the drive or even antivirus blocking the process. I would check that first then check TRS22. To check for TRS22 issues, go to the Launcher and click on Developer menu item. Click on Clear log then Show log prior to submitting the assets. This will show you where the issue is with TRS22 and even sometimes will show a system problem such insufficient space to submit the files

That reminds me of the same (or a similar) problem I had with TANE. It turned out to be caused by my antivirus software that insisted on scanning and re-scanning every single file that was opened (or closed) by TANE.

The fix was simple: I added tane.exe to the antivirus' realtime exclusion list. When I updated to TRS19 and then to TRS22 I added them to the exclusion list as well. No problems since.

Also VPNs can cause problems when downloading from the DLS. Either disable or turn your VPN off when accessing the DLS.

My experiences.

problem is with assets appearing as faulty but no errors and no warnings. It messed all my route including packaged ones . my TRS22 now is impossible to use.in fact you cannot import older routes or asset without messing the whole thing.
There are no way to fix the problem and i am fighting with this issue since i purchased TRS22 two weeks ago. I decided to suppress all trs22 files and download it again for the third time but if the same problem occur i will asq refund... TRS19 was fine. I never had so many issues with a new TRS version.
I am not a computer specialist and i am probably to nuts to use this game now...

to be complete, i send all my game and computer data to help desk and there is no problem with disk space. i made an exclusion on my antivirus but it did not solve the issue.

Hello, regarding moving my own route from TRS19P to TRS22, I have run into a problem that I hope someone may know the answer. Like Railsim49 above I was able to successfully export 2 of my own routes from 19 to 22 EXCEPT for one stubborn one. Everything appeared to work correctly but I could not find the route in 22. Error logs of subsequent attempts showed that it was 'not written' as it was 'already installed' - yet it was not showing in game or in CM of 22. Does anyone have any thoughts of what I may be doing wrong? I followed the same process as the other successful imports. Thanks.

Thanks for your reply. I did try that as well as shut down and restart, but no luck - still not showing in TRS22. Your solution of moving the entire directory sounds like a good one - might be the go. I assume then ALL the routes available in TRS19 would then be available in 22? If that is the case, I would do that. Just need to find out how to do that next! Back to the knowledge base. Thanks again. Stu

Thanks, I have now pointed TRS22 to the TRS19 directory as per the instructions and it works!

Seems counter intuitive (to me anyway) to run TRS22 by pointing it to the TRS19 data folder if you want to access TRS19 routes AND TRS22 routes.

I suspected that may mean that I would have to re download the TRS22 routes and that is what has occurred. The TRS22 routes were no longer available (visible, but not available to play immediately) and to access them I had to redownload.

I assume now I have duplicates of the TRS22 routes? Is anyone able to tell me if that is one of the consequences of doing this? Thanks, Stu
