Screenshot of The Week: June 27 to July 4 2022 (Independent)

At this point at July 4, 1967, the GN was still very much independent.

Is the theme "independent" or "independence" (as in the US holiday)?

Dartrider's got the idea. It is "independent" as there's a subtle nod to the US holiday while still allowing for a broad and creative interpretation for the rest of our international friends.

4 July in the 1980s - ATSF is still independent as it speeds over the river.

We'll be home for the fireworks tonight, right?

I love it, a good Mystery with lots of Intrigue, the dark of night, a light appears from afar......Nice Touch........;)

The historic NZGR Ka

Finally after many months the train excursions are running again. The country folk living nearby are independent of needing to use their cars to get to see the great Ka steam locomotive pulling the historic carriages as it traveled to their country station. Instead the people bicycled or walked and enjoyed the fresh air, sounds and smells of the surrounding land.

Y-1a electric #5011 is the only locomotive of its type on the Great Northern. On July 4, 1955, it brings the westbound Empire Builder through the GN's electrified district in Washington State. In scarcely more than a year, the wires will come down and diesel locomotives will haul trains through to Seattle.
