Thanks for posting this. Those are beautiful photos. When I see them, I think of how much pride went into building and running these railroads before the mega-corporations took over and pared everything down including employees in the name of profits and bonuses for the executives.
 
I couldn't agree more, I think that is one of the factors that attracted me to the RGS. There was a real symbiotic relationship between the railroad workers and the people that depended on them. Not many businesses today can lay claim to having people work for them for 50 years like many men did on the Southern as the locals called her. Somehow they always found a way to keep the trains moving regardless of what nature through at them.
