Default East Broad Top is open again for business...

A friend of mine sent me this article.

They're using a doodlebug with some open-air coaches. I wonder if the steam locomotives will be brought back, or are they considered too dirty and old. There was no mention of them in the article.

I remember reading somewhere that they're restoring one of the steam locomotives, I think #15.

They are working on at least two of the Steam Locos, was info on the Narrow Gauge Enthusiasts Facebook page sometime during the pandemic, try finding anything on Facebook!

    however Google found this https://oldeastie.com/Loco/14.html

With the purchase of the EBT in 2020 by the EBT Foundation, all the Mikados were evaluated as to which were the best candidates for return to service. Along with #16, #14 was selected in early May 2020 for rebuild. Tear down of #14 began March 21, 2000. Asbestos abatement occured in early May 2-9, 2020 in roundhosue stall 8. A succesful hydrostatic test was performed the week of May 18-22, 2020. She was subsequently moved to the running repair track in the Locomotive Shop. It was found again that the cast iron driver wheel centers had extensive cracking. New steel wheel centers are being cast to replace all eight driver wheel centers. The running gear and suspention needs extensive work. Work continues as of this wiritng to return her to service in 2022.
According to a comment on a youtube page one is currently being retubed.

That's good to hear. Hopefully the others can be brought back to life as well and not planted on stands to look pretty like what happened with the Mount Washington Cog Railway which switched to biodiesels from their antique steam engines.

Hello John, the EBTF along with the FEBT are working together to open most of the original 33 mile line as well as get all steam locos operational. EBT 16 is nearing the final stages of its restoration and the 5 miles of track north to Colgate Grove have been rehabbed. They have also taken delivery of 2 reproduction coaches that look like the vintage cars with 2 more in construction.

Hey PBY357. Thank you for the really awesome news. I'm glad to hear that and not that the line has been turned into a rail trail with a Walmart built across the middle of it somewhere as happened to so many lines including famous ones.
