Any recommendations for 1890-1900s era US layouts or routes?

George Fisher (gfisher) did some nice routes in that time period - two on the DLS are Box Butte & Meg's Despair and St Barbara Railroad. Both are a bit old now, but should be easily updateable.

Curtis

Thanks very much Curtis, - I can see some other interesting looking routes on the DLS by George Fisher as well.

I spent all day downloading not quite 7000 assets for the Timber Ridge Line, but somehow ended up with a whole pile of unknowns by Tume that I can't identify.

I decided to take a break from dependency hunting to try out Angels Branch Sierra RR which I'd got sorted out in TRS22 yesterday. I'm used to driving using the steam controls with my 19th century engines on the Minehead branch (West Somerset) with its steep gradients, but this was a whole new level. My old Baldwin from TS2009 days was steaming like a champion and it was nice to be driving it again, but I had to really watch it on the descents especially since using air brakes was a whole new ball game. All good fun though and certainly the change of scenery that I was seeking.

Annie, well done on expanding your horizons!

There's nothing like a new project to regenerate interest in this hobby.
I should know, I am an expert at flitting from project to project to keep me on my toes :hehe:.

I am tempted to delve into Aus and NZ for a change but I am too busy running up and down the mountains of Nepal and Switzerland with a visit to UK and Germany/Austria in between.

Good luck with your new found interest, I await more screenies!

Don't forget to check out philskene's US MRR for ideas.

Cheers,
Graham

If you want to post a list of your missing assets here I'd be happy to look-em up in my install and pass along what they are and what the dependants are that I have. I only have two missing assets on Timber Ridge.

Take my word for it you will not beat Wild Bill 2 or Wild Bill 3. One is TS12 the later one for TANE.
I have been messing with this route since TRS2006 and it my view it is perfect for adding items and generally playing around with. It is 3ft gauge but there is ample rolling stock available for this. Togog has made plenty of locos and latterly some carriages. I have added an entire town to an area of this route and I am now actively updating all of my buildings solely for this purpose.
. . . . .

Regards

Ken

Route is 3ft 6ins not 3ft

Well, think you, Ken. I had a lot of fun creating that route. I purposely made it rather generic, with a lot of different scenes in it. I've been considering bring it up into TS2019 and really doing a job on it. Most of the trees are older style and need upgrading. Changing to Protrack would be a plus as well.

Bill

Yes you are quite right Graham, - a change of scene can be just the thing to spark a renewed interest with this hobby of ours. I'd been spending far too much time doing rolling stock repairs and adjusting the opacity in what seemed like hundreds of coach windows so I needed to take a holiday that wasn't on a layout I'd built and get myself back on the footplate.

By the way I ran that old Subpar Productions Baldwin around on an early philskene's layout called Urban Industrial back when I was running TS2009 WBE. I might dig the rest of the old Subpar Baldwins I've got out of the archives as well and give them a run. After messing about and modding 'Urban Industrial' I moved on to build a New Zealand layout or two and they were a lot of fun as well. It was when I purchased TS2012 that the Uk railway bug bit hard and I got into 19th century and pre-grouping modelling.

Thank you very much that would be a big help.

Made it through top 1/3.... A lot are from "Stockton Terminal & Eastern" (DLS) "West from Denver" (DLC), Fall Harvest Neb (DLC) and one so far from Coal Country. I think you have plus right? You want to download those and then check again? Or should I complete the list and post (which I don't mind doing at all). But it likely will be late today or tomorrow.

A number of your listed assets show that the only dependant on my install is "Timber Ridge line std guage 2021 june 8th version 3" - Is that the one you downloaded?

Yes it was version 3 that I downloaded. I'll check what I've got activated in +Plus and see if I can download any of those.

If you downloaded the right version everything should be on the dls, I spent weeks getting rid of all the unknowns , anything by tume can be problematic tho, it's likely it's some houses that have became payware or packaged into other routes that now aren't bundled with whatever version of 2019 you have, this aspect of the game is SO frigging annoying , its probably happened due to changes in the 2019 package since the route was released I doubt it's anything that will stop you running the route .the tane version of timber ridge had a lot of external content , yet that was mostly rolling stock for the 30 inch narrow gauge .in future I will attempt to not use any assets made by tume to try to avoid these ultra irritating occurrences .

It was Version 3 that I downloaded with very few problems all except these 'unknowns' by Tume. The list of of missing/unknown assets by Tume are on Page 1 at post #27 Dan. I've had endless problems with Tume's assets as well with other route downloads and they usually end up getting deleted. In fact it's got so I dread seeing his name in a dependency list since it always means problems.

As info... most everyone I looked up was in fact - "Packaged" - But i don't understand why you are missing the ones that show in my install as having Timber Ridge v3 as the "dependant." That means the asset was in Timber Ridge does it not? Again, I downloaded the standard guage v3 version.

Awesome scenics and route by the way!

I've been downloading USA DLC into my copy of TRS22 and doing EDBRs and nothing is shifting those 'unknowns'. I'm considering changing them all into red flag markers like I usually do with vanished third party assets so I can find where they are and easily replace them.

good idea , i pondered long about removing these Tume assets but since at the time most people weren't having issues i left them in there, its a curse they be , a curse I say !!!!!!!! you could drop in some of those nice old buildings co71 did for colorado which would suit the era better anyway. The uintah will at least not contain any TUME assets as there are very few buildings that haven't had to be made specifically for the route and not a lot of buildings on it anyway as its so darned remote !!!!

Thanks Dan I'm glad you approve. That was pretty much my plan, - sub the 'unknowns' with red flags, go and find the red flags and then replace them with something that's not likely to be a problem in the future.

Just curious. How do one go about replacing unknowns with anything else. They don't show up other than an orange box which can't be selected.

Bill

It involves a bit of bodging Bill. Take an asset like a really tall flag that will be reasonably visible and change its username to something like FLAG- (Asset creators name)- (number). If you're having to do a lot of 'unknown' marking it really helps to label your flags properly and give them a number.
Then what you do is copy your flag onto the desktop into a handy spare place where you won't lose it; - and then in CM is find your 'unknown' and copy its KUID number and paste it over the KUID number of your flag in its config file. Save everything back into the folder and then drag it into CM. If you've done it all properly the 'unknown' will be 'unknown' no longer and will be a flag instead that will mark the spot where the 'unknown' was supposed to be.
The final act is to use surveyor's asset replacement tool to change the flag into another properly useful asset, - or else just delete the flag if you don't want to do that.

I've done that in the past using a gawd awful looking tree that was bright orange and way out of scale. The bright orange and size made it stand out like a sore thumb and I then knew where the missing assets were located.
