In Trainz:
Click on the 3-bars in the upper right corner.
This brings up the menu for settings within the program itself for graphics, sound, etc.
In General Settings, there's a couple of checkboxes:
1) Show performance statistics in Surveyor
2) Show performance statistics in Driver
This will bring up a bunch-o-numbers on the left side of the screen. Look for the worst offenders. Note, track will be the worst offender for polygons, but outside of that KUID look for other things.
The other thing you can try is:
On the Launcher, disable full screen and choose Show Profiler.
Click on settings.
Under the general settings, uncheck full screen if you have that enabled.
Before starting up, click on Developer menu item on the top of the Launcher, and click Clear Profiler. Just before you start, click show profiler.
The reason for running windowed, is to all you to bring up the profiler without needing to minimize Trainz to get there or press ALT+ ENTER to switch applications by bringing up the task bar.
