Speed problem.

I have a problem within the game where AI trains will only drive at half the line speed. I haven't updated to SP4 yet as I lost a massive (6 months) route i was working on when I upgraded to SP3. The route is there, but It's just the baseboards, every building, piece of track etc has gone. Starting again but can't get the trains to run more than half speed. Thanks.

Try placing a few signals along the line
they can even be hidden/invisible ones

Line is signaled, never had this problem pre SP3.

Check your switches and ensure they are aligned for the AI driver's route. If the upcoming junction is set incorrectly for the route, the AI will operate at half the posted speed because their signals will be yellow indicating that the last signal is red.
