Thank you Veterans!

November 11 is Veterans Day in the U. S. I have to be somewhere in the morning, so I wanted to take this early opportunity to thank those of you who are our veterans for your service to our country. Whatever your years of service, rank, location, branch of the military, or experiences we all owe you our gratitude. WELL DONE! And the same gratitude goes out to veterans of other countries who may read this. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE TO US ALL!

Thank you to everyone who has served in the U.S. Military and fought conflicts that change the tide of the world forever. Thank you for your service and gratitude to your country.

Good thread. Nov 11th is for the US veterans, but I have a lot of respect for anyone who sets their life aside and serves in their country's military. I just missed the draft and Vietnam.

In Australia we celebrate on November 11 with 1 minute silence on Remembrance Day, in memory of those that fell in WW1.
Cheers, Mike

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

I remember seeing a thing where CP trains would stop for 1 minute on November 11 and after, they blow their horn once to remember fallen soldiers. Is this true?

My grandfather on my mom's side, known as Poppy, was in the Army from 1955-1958 and was at Bikini Atoll during late 1956 and early 1957. He was a communications specialist and the reason he was at Bikini Atoll was to make sure all the generals there would have reliable communications with the rest of the world for their reports on the nuclear bomb tests known as Operation Redwing. He retired from the military with the rank of Sargent, and unfortunately, he would end dying from cancer not long before I was born due to the radiation he was exposed to at Bikini Atoll.

The holiday for fallen soldiers is generally considered to be Memorial Day. The veterans are still around more or less.
