With the US's war effort in full swing by mid-1943, many of the northeast's trunk lines shouldered the brunt of wartime traffic. Serving between 40-50% of the US's population, roads like the B&O, PRR, LE&E, and NYC became the lynchpin in the country's production line as America's railroads entered their finest hour. Although the entrance to Cattaraugus yard is congested, the tower operators and yardmaster ensure the movement of priority war traffic. Here, LE&E 3702 blasts out of town on July 4, 1943, with a "MAIN" priority troop train, and an armored division destined for Europe.

Is it Sacrilege to run RRMODS Content on a JointedRail Route?

A CEFX AC4400CW leads a CSX AC4400CH and a 100-car FURX coal train thru Peabody. Two-thirds back in the train is a second CSX AC4400CH DPU and on the rear is another CEFX AC4400CW DPU and two Ex-SP AC4400CW's as helpers.

From Bad To Worse

"Scranton Dispatch, come in Scranton Dispatch. Halt all traffic. We've gone on the ground and are spread all over the right of way. Repeat, we're all over the ground and spread across the right of way."

On February 1, 1968, Penn Central was created. Not even 2 years later, it was the biggest financial failure in American history at the time. Bad trackwork, conflicting operations, in-house competition... Anything that could go wrong, did.

PC train EV-4 was the unfortunate victim for today, as a broken rail sent the cars digging into the ballast, and a few off the embankment. Certainly a mess afterwards; spilling loads from the hoppers, cargo on the ground, even a trailer on its side.

Dispatch sends GP30 2233 to help clear the line. No one is surprised - this is the 3rd derailment this week. The engineer is tired of it all. After losing one of his good friends in a wreck a few years ago, he wonders if surviving the bankruptcy was even worth it.

BF&E 8707, the former IC 8707, embarks on its shakedown run on the Indiana-based shortline with its new companions. Acquired shortly after the CN/IC merger propositions were struck down, the Paducah-rebuilt GP11 is the latest and final addition to the shortlines roster. With the units history going back to IC/ICG, PC, and NH, it's come a long way.
