Distrito Acultzingo - Linea SC
Linea S is the Ferrocarril del Sureste Mainline from Mexico City to the Port of Veracruz. The original Line featured the Distrito Maltrata, a 4,7% grade, climbing more than 4000ft in under 30 miles between Jesus de Nazareno, Puebla and Orizaba, Veracruz. In the 1980s, a new alignment, called the Distrito Acultzingo (Linea S/C) was built, reducing the grades to a more manageable 2,5 - 2,7%. This new line features 32 tunnels, curves up to 4180 degrees with multiple levels and horseshoes and a large Viaduct called Puente Vaqueria. The line itself is dark territory, but with signals indicating the siding switch positions. Speeds range from 22mph in the hills up to about 55mph on open terrain. Although Linea SC is a huge improvement over the original line, it still poses an operational challenge for the many Intermodal, Grain and Auto Trains traversing it every day. Additional problems are created by the many migrants using the trains to get to the US border (La Bestia / El Tren de la Muerte) and frequent robberies and caused derailments by criminals and the Los Zetas cartel operating in the area.
The Line in Trainz
Using an up to 25m accurate, pre textured DEM, PBR, TurFX and Clutter, this one will be an actual TRS19 level route - unlike the previous (and finished) BNSF Butte subdivision, which had still used original building techniques. The Route will span from Orizaba all the way to Jesus the Nazareno, about 48 miles / 77kilometers.
Release
Well, this is the screenshot area, not "Freeware Announcements" - so lets not discuss this here as of now. All i can say is, that since it is a new build, i'm actually trying to use stuff thats from the DLS or available for free elsewhere. Not like my usual projects, lol. But first, lets try get something done here that deserves the title "route", right. Planned Timeframe is 1,5 years as of now, with the Focus on the important part from Mezquite to Puente Colorado to be done first
Here's a map of the full Area, showing in color whats on the DEM, and how likely / hard it is to include it. Current Area is Priority A, Acultzingo itself. Full distance would be 78 miles / 125km, and ranging from 480m MSL on the far right up to 2440m MSL on the left
Map of the Acultzingo Area, the main grade at 2.5 to 2.7 uphill
