There was another thing I wanted to mention on this as well. I too was interested in making some new trees to fill in the North American species. I took a look at IDV, the company that makes Speed Trees. The intention was good, but I never got any closer. The software to start with is quite expensive to buy, however, it's also offered on a rental basis, meaning a subscription. This is fine if we could use the current creations. The problem is there is no export support for older versions, meaning the current one we're using, and they only support their current release which was V7 at the time. This means even if we got into making our own trees, they wouldn't work anywhere else because there's no support for us in V6 and there is also no upgrade path from V6 outside of starting over again!
This is exactly the same issue that N3V ran into when they upgraded from V5 to V6 when going from TS12 to TANE at the time and why we're in the predicament we're in now. This is great for those locked down games where the developer controls the development of their products and not the community, but for us we're at a standstill until something else comes along that's better, or if there's some form of upgrade path.
So much for that idea!
