You created the .evt correct
hope a Blender user can help you further
1 thing gained, you at least have 1 sound working

Yes, I created the .evt file from scratch. I tried ommiting the 0s. Now both sounds play when the doors open and neither will play while closing. How anyone managed to get this working without pulling their hair out is beyond my knowledge.

haha in 2004 i pulled out my hair for sure, working on this, glad it grew back fast.
if nothing else works, and no Blenderer helps,
I offer to make your door and .kin in gmax, i just need a .3ds or .im file and a clear description what should happen at which frame
