Why does Trainz 2019 CTD when I'm placing trains on the track for consist creation?

Every time I'm trying to make a consist, no matter which route, as I continually place the cars on the track, the game gets slower... and slower...... and slower......... then it crashes to desktop every single time! It's very annoying having to save the game every time a place a single car on the track. Also, as I'm placing the trains on the track, the game gradually gets more choppy. This happens no matter which train cars I've tried. The simple act of placing them on the track destroys the game. Just now, for example:

1 Norfolk Southern ES44AC <kuid2:45324:100249:1> (forward)
1 Norfolk Southern ES44AC <kuid2:45324:100249:1> (reversed)
1 Norfolk Southern C40-9W <kuid2:45324:100272:1> (forward)
1 TILX 23000 gal Funnel-Flow tank car <kuid:348207:100943> (forward)

As soon as I placed the TILX tank car on the track, the game crashed to desktop. This happens completely randomly when clicking on a random train car from the list of available cars or when placing a random train car on the track. For example, when I restarted the game this time, it let me put the TILX tank car on the track behind the NS C40-9W without a problem, but as I continue to place more cars on the track behind the tank car:

1 Well Car Gunderson Unit A MAERSK <kuid:359354:104405> (reversed)
1 Well Car Gunderson Unit C MAERSK <kuid:359354:104407> (reversed)
1 Well Car Gunderson Unit D MAERSK <kuid:359354:104408> (reversed)
1 Well Car Gunderson Unit E MAERSK <kuid:359354:104409> (reversed)
1 Well Car Gunderson Unit B MAERSK <kuid:359354:104406> (reversed)

1 Powered Flo Covered Hopper NAHX <kuid2:101046:101313:2> (forward)

1 PROX 23000 gal Funnel-Flow tank car black <kuid:348207:100945> (Crash to desktop)

The game crashed to desktop as soon as I clicked on that last tank car.

I then open to game FOR A THIRD TIME and begin adding more cars, starting from where I left off...

1 PROX 23000 gal Funnel-Flow tank car black <kuid:348207:100945> (forward)
2 Hopper Covered NST Potash Service NS DES (forward)

I successfully added 41 more cars and managed to save it.

So why does the game randomly close when random train cars are selected or placed on a track?
And why does the game seem to get choppy when this happens?

Possibly a bad asset. Check the log for things like errors or multiple attempts to load something. May not be the traincars themselves, could be a commodity used that's the problem or totally unrelated to traincars and consists but maybe a scenery item in that area that's the cause or possibly a bad script. Checking the log may give you a clue, it may not but it's the first place I look when odd things are happening.
Choppy might signify something is taking repeated attempts to load, it also might indicate something has forced database repair in the background, I suspect but not 100% sure that some assets with problems trigger the DBR, check performance monitor for disk activity on your Trainz disk.

I once spent a week trying to find what was causing a crash to desk top, turned out to be a 1930s car (automobile) deleted it problem went away, same car on a different install same build of Trainz on a different PC was fine, so reinstalled it from the DLS and no problem.

Bad assets are often are not bad if deleted, a Database repair run and then re-installed.

There are quite a few reasons, someone with more knowledge that I will probably take up your thread however here is what I have experienced.

a - consist errors.
b - previous edits of route and or session have been committed.
c - data base errors.

For item a above go to Manage Content, spend some time clearing all errors, I repeat ALL.
For item b above go to Content Manager and open it, select Open for editing, if anything is showing, select them all and commit them.
For item c, complete items a & b then carry out a Data Base Repair by selecting, Developer then holding down the Control Key select Rebuild Data Base.

Restart the game.
There are another couple of actions that may be taken
d- when in edit or session select the third icon, crossed wrench & screw driver, select, Delete missing assets.

Restart the game.

Best of luck

Well, I have like 500 faulty items. I managed to get it down to 250, but it'll be a while before I can test this method to see if it works. I might just delete them to expedite the process.

Also, how do you check the log?

Under Developer, Show logs.

With that many faulty assets, I would spend some time cleaning those up before looking for the answers for the current problem. The issue could very well be related to what's faulty already.

Now, I would divide the problems into two parts.

1) Missing dependencies only.
2) Faulty only.

The 500 faulty assets could be mostly missing dependencies or a single dependency. Downloading one asset, may solve a lot of the so-called faulty assets.

The faulty only assets need to be looked at in detail. I would try highlighting and reverting to original first. Sometimes a DBR, if performed, can reveal faulty assets that are not. Sometimes a faulty bogey too can fix multiple assets as well so the mess may not be as bad as it appears.

Maybe not an answer you want to consider, but there are quite a few pre-made consists available, that you can plunk down all at once, and nothing should crash....

Hi janathan - We've been trying to reproduce this issue internally but w\o any luck so far. John has a good point about trying to resolve the faulty assets first and a potentially quick way to check this is to simply create a new data folder and point your game to that. Then install the content anew, from any DLC & DLS sources. This may resolve the faulty stuff for you "automatically". If you continue to have troubles with this please feel free to contact QA using the link below, then we can work on getting your route set up in our SIL that mirrors your environment as close as possible and see if we can get a repro for dev.
