Has Trainz Model Railroad 2017 been replaced with a newer version of Trainz?

Good morning all,

I've been searching the web for software that will allow me to easily prototype a HO Model Railroad I hope to build in 2021.

While Trainz Model Railroad 2017 seems like a good fit, the fact that it isn't available on Steam and hasn't been updated has me concerned.

Reading through these forums, I'm now getting the impression that Trainz Railroad Simulator 2019 might replace Trainz Model Railroad 2017, as well as include all the same model railroad building content?

That said, I'm hoping someone here can put me straight - as we're closing in on 2021, does it still make sense to purchase
Trainz Model Railroad 2017 (is it hidden on Steam?) or can the newer Trainz Railroad Simulator 2019 do everything the older package can do when it comes to prototyping a model railroad?

Thanks in advance for your replies!

Grey

TMR2017 is still available at $29.99 at the Trainz Store. It's Trainz 4.4 and essentially the same as TANE SP1, but with bundled assets included for building virtual model railways as well as model railway routes instead of what TANE has included. It can be purchased as either a stand alone version or a plug-in for TANE.
I own the stand alone version and I like it well enough, - but that's just me. There's an increasing amount of assets made by Trainz community members for the TMR format on the Download Station and most of it is a step up from what is included with TMR2017. I mainly prefer to build TMR format layouts in TS2012, others are building them in TANE and TS2019. There really isn't any need to own a copy of TMR2017 and as Malc has said TMR2017 was a one-off shot that won't be either updated or repeated.

Hi Grey --

You can build model railroads in TMR17 but, because of the improved graphics of TRS19 (the new TRS19 track, 3D PBR textures, TurfFX grasses, ... ), you can construct much better ones in TRS19. So much better, in fact, that I felt obliged to redo the two routes of mine included in TRM17 to bring them up to TRS19 standards.

See here:

And here:

https://forums.auran.com/trainz/sho...Zyd-amp-Fulazturn-DLC-layout-updated-to-TRS19

I've probably constructed and uploaded more TRS19 model railroads than anyone in the Universe. For example:

and:

https://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?151679-TRS19-layout-The-Hoofhearted-amp-Smelz-RRCo

There are quite a few more on the Download Station. I've also uploaded a number of videos to youtube showing completed layouts and work in progress. For example:

Search youtube with "philskene".

Be assured I could never go back to an earlier version of Trainz. By advised, though, that the learning curve might be quite steep.
