legacy format saves

Why are sessions from routes I download and I saved on my own computer that i want to edit telling me they are in Legacy format ... this is just silly

I've never seen that Tom. Maybe a screenshot to show us what you are seeing.
Off the top of my head, all I can think of is the file system change introduced in TANE SP2 where mapfile.*** are now per baseboard rather than per route as in the past. If that is the case, 'save as' on first opening the route will force a file system rewrite.
