Few ideas for adding a bit of realism....

Some may already know, some may not. I only recently discovered this process myself for including little bit of reality when taking a train from one place to another.

Using text to speech with this free conversion program [web based] you can type whatever comes to mind and convert it to speech [mp3]. https://ttsmp3.com and with a variety of voices, it comes across quite realistic for a text to speech program. Then simply convert it to a .wav file also using a web based program https://www.freeconvert.com/to-wav

If you have Audacity installed [suggested] the file can be manipulated to desired output, including echo, decibel etc. The file is then loaded into an html asset, if you have one suitable.

I have used the trigger check rule to activate the wave file which was placed into <kuid:206816:99819> Sound Collection (Example) and configured accordingly using the add sound rule as a child of 'trigger check'.

On the downside the file will play the sound no matter what train you are controlling. i.e. If you are controlling train A and Train B triggers the asset you'll hear it in train A no matter where you are on the route. I am unaware if this can be eliminated. Maybe someone know if its possible.

Give this process a try, I really like it and will incorporate it in any future session I upload.
Cheers,
Val.

That's really interesting and I can see that useful for arrivals and departures from stations among other places.

The issue I think you are having relates to the ambient sound setting along with the sound radius, or distance that the sound can be heard.

http://online.ts2009.com/mediaWiki/index.php/"Soundscript"_container

If you set the distance and change the ambient to 0 (1 means it will be ambient), then this becomes more localized. I used this to fix an ancient barking dog sound that used to be heard for many kilometers across my map.

There are other settings too including volume which you may want to raise or lower depending upon your situation.

To add to this idea, you could add what some call "Japanese Train Tunes" or in Japanese hassha merodi (departure melody). They are common inside the train before the announcement of the next stop, as well as at stations, and in some stations each platform has a distinct tune. To learn more,

Gday John, Thanks for suggestion but where do I find the setting to change? Is it the .wav file, the 'play sound' asset or somewhere else.

Your sound-producing asset should have a sound-container in it. It's within that container that you put these settings.

Hi Val,
I've used the sound files for the station announcements on my old Sydney Central route.

Try the DVA5 website which has the platform announcements for Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. You'll also need to have the latest Java Runtime program installed.

This site has some interesting information,.. https://phildenmodelrailway.blogspot.com/2017/02/creating-authentic-station-announcements.html

By the way, I haven't found a way to isolate the sound just to the relative station as yet. It can be heard across the route. However if you are riding in the cab the sounds are triggered by your consist so it does create a little realism.

Cheers,
Roy

Hey Roy,
Has a look, quite interesting what has been done with that DVA5 programme. However, I've read before that java is risky for malware. So do not use it.
I tried to follow John's suggestion re localising the sound without much success. Cant seem to find the container he speaks of. Pity really. Seems to me the only way around it is to limit just one train with 'internal announcements' triggered, per session. Eve then if you decide to hop on another consist it'll be heard.

I think the text to speech is quite neat. Love the fact that you can alter the voice between female/male.
Hope you keep well.
