Now available as ebook: Locomotive Engine Running And Management

Thanks. I had one on surveying but I lost the file and the link to it in a hard disk crash sometime ago. I have to go look for that one again too because that has some really useful information on surveying principles and processes.

On a whim, I searched for "Surveying" on the site. I did not find a textbook, but one of the hits was "The U. P. Trail" by Zane Grey. It is a classic fictional western, but fans of the book say it could almost be classed as historic fiction because of the amount of research Grey did into the building of the railway. https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/4684

I'll have to check that out. These were on Google books, not the Project Gütenberg.

Here's the one I downloaded before from the International Correspondence School - 1903. There are other parts of this series up there as well.

Here's another one I also found.

The search comes up on page 98, but you can download the whole book by clicking on View all first.

Imagine taking a mail-away course in railway surveying!

It is interesting what you get when you do a search on Project Gutenberg. I just searched on "railroad" and got a couple of manuals on railroad construction. None on surveying. There is also an interesting book on the GWR and a few more on English railways.
