Near the end of "Silver Streak" 1976 movie, a runaway passenger train (the bad guy put a toolbox on the deadman pedal) crashed into a large passenger station. Near the end of "Earth vs. The Flying Saucers" 1956 movie, one of the saucers being "shot down" by the good guys crashed into a large passenger station. On the IMDB website https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0049169/trivia?ref_=tt_trv_trv , the saucer crashing into the station may have been inspired by a 1953 accident when a runaway passenger train smashed into the station concourse. I looked up the accident and found out that the train lost its brakes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1953_...tion in Washington, D.C. on January 15, 1953.

Yeah, I remember that one! We were living down in Tidewater VA at the time. We've always held it a miracle that the baggage room was empty.

20 years later my wife and I were honeymooning on a transcontinental rail trip and were on the Pennsy somewhere around Harrisburg when the GG1 pulling us lost its air compressor. We sat and admired the scenery for ninety minutes while the shops sent out a portable compressor and hooked it up. Those units were real long in the tooth at that point.

Ah, memories!

:B~)
