Preserved railways in the UK

Whilst building a list here seems a bit pointless given that they exist elsewhere I would like to encourage everyone to support their steam railways during the lockdown. Most heritage railways hit their lowest bank balance in the spring as they have spent all the money earned the year before on winter engineering and are about to reopen for business. The lockdown couldn't have come at a worse time for railway cashflows!

Buying a membership, giving a donation or buying something from their online shop all help financially (perhaps donating the cost of a return trip on a line you might have visited, but couldn't is a good approach). If you can't afford to give any money right now then simply visiting a railways website or following its social media pages will help them out by ensuring they maintain good rankings with online advertisers, putting the railway in a good position to publicise its reopening when the time comes.

Well said, Ed. Indeed, tough times for many at the moment!

Rob.
