Books and information for routes

Afternoon all,

So for my start on the Nidd Valley Railway I got out a selection of my books to read up on. What books or websites do you use to gather information or answer questions for track laying, routes, consists etc?

I am currently reading CJ Freezer's excellent signalling for model railways which is helping me sort out some signalling of my Midsomer railway. For reference i'm also enjoying James Rogers' "The Railways of Harrogate and District" from the NERA. One piece of information I don't have is dimensions and measurements of points. I've always just used my eye to work out what kind of curve etc they should have but it would be nice to know if i'm close to what LMS/BR used.

Kind regards,

James

Book on Amazon

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nidd-Valley-Railway-Locomotion-Papers/dp/0853611017

Or a hard back copy here

https://www.transportstore.com/Croft-Dj-The-Nidd-Valley-Light-Railway-Book-27892-55.cfm

Plus Railways around Harrogate, includes the Nidd Valley http://www.bottbooks.com/?page=shop/browse&category_id=63

Other than books, Google Images, Often find historical stuff.

Plus a general search on Google and or Bing or whatever search engine.

National Library of Scotland Geo referenced Historical Maps https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=5&lat=55.78537&lon=-3.16449&layers=1&b=1

If using Transdem you can get historical maps as well.

And sometimes Google Street view for any old stuff that may be left.

Oh nice find, ye in the process of learning the TransDEM, my first attempt worked fine but I'm going to incorporate the osGRID data to really get it pretty dam near perfect.

(Side note - Do I have to type in the image verification everytime I want to post or reply?)

Shouldn't have to, occasionally happens, happened to me a year or so ago. A helpdesk ticket should get it sorted, link to the place you can raise an actual ticket rather than the unhelpful help stuff you have to wade through. https://support.trainzportal.com/index.php?/Troubleshooter/Step/View/1

Do you mean Harrogate to Pateley Bridge or Pateley Bridge to Lofthouse

Ok will do thanks, seem to have alot of restricted access wierdly on this forum.

Well actually both. the Nidd Valley railway was different from the Nidd Valley Light Railway. Would you believe little old Pateley Bridge had two stations in it!
