The correct symbol for a path seperator

When using images that are held in a directory underneath the main directory in TS2012 I used the \ character, and this has always worked. But in TANE and TRS2019, my images are not showing, but I know they are there in the html, as the tooltip shows up when I hover over where they should be. I can also click on that area, so I get the click and act accordingly. They are working.

However I have the case of the missing images. All I can think of is how the image path is specified. What is the correct character to use?

Should it be a \ or a /. What is recommended for TANE and TRS2019? Do I need to escape it?

After some experimenting I have come up with the problem, so if others have this problem, here is what happens:

TS2012 - supports both \ and /
TANE and TRS19 only supports /
