AI & Wrong shortcuts

One of the ongoing problems with the AI is that it will take the shortest path. This leads to trains going through industrial sidings of that is a bit shorter than staying on the mainline. Even slower posted speeds don't help.

Is there something new in T19 to solve this problem that I am not aware of?

A Track Directional Marker pointing towards the AI train, will stop it from taking an undesired path

I need to get into the sidings from either direction.

The Mainline is two track and uses Track Direction Markers.

Directional markers need to be used with care since they can stop legitimate traffic movements as well as the daft AI ones you don't want. The Trainz AI is addicted to crossovers. Put a facing crossover anywhere and they will fight to make use of it even to the point of actually completely ignoring direction markers. And what the AI considers to be the shortest route is often nothing of the kind. The AI in TS2019 is still dumb as a rock just like it always was and is very likely to remain so for a very long time.
The only real way to keep an AI driver on route is to use track marks (go-this-way-you-idiot marks) placed at every point where they'll try to go the wrong way.

Use Track Priority Markers. The default priority of tracks and trains is 2. use a priority of 3 for the industry track, and the train will try to use another path. It's not really a priority, a train with priority 1 doesn't have a higher priority than a train with priority 3. When searching a path to its destination, a train prefers to use tracks, which have the same priority as the train. The train will use tracks of other priorities (1 to 3), if there is no other path available.
