The great route of the Donner Pass is being completely updated.

The update also includes seasonal versions of objects and PBR textures.

You are a true genius Jango. Outstanding work!

It's good to see you posting as it is a sign you are doing well in your home country which is having an especially difficult time with the battle against the virus.
I wish you continued good health.

Paul :)

Well that cuts it. When that is done I am going to have to pry open my wallet and finally shell out for that gorgeous route! Been wanting to for years, but the USD is on the wrong side of the the trade for the Euro. But this is just worth it, in my mind. Well done!

There was a time when I used to ski at Sugar Bowl on Mt. Judah.

There is a chair and a gondola at Sugar Bowl to carry skiers across (above) the tracks because the parking area is on the opposite side of the tracks from the ski runs.

I spent a lot of time driving up and down Interstate 80 which parallels (sort of) the SP tracks.

Jango, you've nailed the appearance of this area in the summer.

Best regards,
Horace Fithers

Hello Jango,

Agree 100% with others comments, the Routes look spot on, I have driven thru Northern, Central California and parts of Nevada many a time in the last 60 yrs, your pictures look exactly as I remember some of these areas.......:mop::mop:

You are so talented Jango, we are lucky to have you as Route Builder........Keep up the work.

And stay safe my friend.........

Jango,

In the pix just above there's a line in the mountains gently sloping down to the right. Is that Interstate 80 heading down toward Truckee with Donner lake at the foot of the cliff behind the trees?

That would make the mountain slightly left of center Mt. Judah (named after the man who surveyed the transcontinental route through the Sierras).

Great job!

Horace Fithers

Hi Horace,
I see that you know the area well ....
You will know this monument for sure!

That looks like the monument to the Donner party - a group of unfortunates that tried to get through the Sierras but started a little late. This are of the Sierras is known for dropping up to 8 feet of snow (or more) at a time. They got trapped and were freezing starving to death, resorting (I think) to cannibalism before a rescue party could get to them. The pass is named for them. Yikes, they should have picked a better guide!

The big lake i(in the distance) is Donner lake. The 4-lane highway on the right is Interstate-80. Further to the right (off screen) is the beginning of Truckee.

If one follows the track in the first shot to the left, I believe it crosses above the highway (sorry, can't remember the road's name, but I haven't been there for 24 years) that leads south to Lake Tahoe (passing Squaw Valley USA - yeah! and Alpine Meadows on the way) on a stone arch-bridge.

the names of the distant mountains escapes me. I believe the main lift at Sugar Bowl went to the top of the distant mountain in the center of the first shot.

I skied a lot in those mountains from '91-'96.

Dang! I did not think I wanted to part with 50 euros before, but now I think I am going to have to part with whatever, for this! It is a masterpiece! Do you have the "trench" through Reno? That should be interesting....
