For US routes, which do you prefer, Yarn/Yarnish or AASHTO?

It depends on what major version of Trainz you are working with. As an example roads that worked well in TRS12 or T:ANE no longer work in TRS19 routes where you are using PBR ground textures that use parallax. If you attempt to use them you will often find that the PBR textures poke up through them. I finally solved this by developing my own road items that will work in TRS19 with those textures. Here are the items I would recommend to you that will work on build 3.5 or later routes and present no issues:
