Early 20th century summer days in the border country. A North British Railway 4-4-0 crosses the bridge over the River Rede to the north-west of Reedsmouth Junction on the Border Counties Railway. She is hauling the morning passenger train from Newcastle to Hawick. Despite the journey taking around three hours the train is made up of compartment non-corridor stock. Anecdotes remain of passengers standing half in and half out of the compartments, keeping the door open while a travelling companion uses the station lavatory, frustrating the guard wanting to give the right away to the driver.

"Run Billy, run"
"When was the last time you were chased by geese, Sally?"
"What? That is a dumb question. This is the last time, sheesh"
