Older Versions of Trainz

Hi Guys
Is there any one out there who still use either
Trainz 2004 or Trainz
Regards
Tonny . herlev

I still keep Trainz 2004 installed on my system as a way of getting old legacy routes to work in 2010 which won't otherwise run, by installing the route into 2004, opening it, then saving it as a 04 route and importing it into 2010 via CMP (I also tried installing Trainz 1.3 but the installer throws up error messages when I try to open the installation file in Win 7). 2010 does work in Win 7 however, I'm not sure how well it would run in Win 10. I think it's about time I invested in upgrading my computer and OS. :p

Yes, I agree, but all my attempts to run 2004 in W10 have failed - it appears to load but shuts down as soon as I try to open a route.

Maybe it's because Im kinda nutty but I have every version of Trainz installed on my main gaming pc.
OCD times 100 I'm afraid.

I have a couple of different versions of TS2009 as well as TC3 on my hard drive. I do have discs for TS2004 and Trainz somewhere, but I haven't used them for a long time.

I am amazed at some of the versions still being sold on Amazon. Trainz PC for Windows 98? 2004, 2006, 2009, HD, I hope they come with a disclaimer that they are not supported....

That's Ok though Forester. I was able to replace some of my older versions by buying them from third party sellers. I do agree that they should have some kind of disclaimer warnings on their websites though.

Certainly do Tonny (Herlev),
I have TRS 2004 still installed and does run very well with the latest hardware software installed on my Windows 7 PC computer.
TRS 2004 is only in 4:3 window format (I use the 1024x768 pixel setting) and there are some good scenarios that come with the product.
This why I have kept the product installed.

In TRS2004 and TRS2006 I have installed
- 372engspec,<kuid:107750:51372> (trainz-build 1.3 ?)
- DB 180 002 Railion,<kuid:107750:180002> (trainz-build 2.4)
- DB 180 012 Railion,<kuid:107750:180012> (trainz-build 2.4)

In TS12 I have additionally installed
- scenery suspension C,<kuid:107750:23001>
- scenery suspension C(R)C(LL),<kuid:107750:23002>

- scenery support cat C,<kuid:107750:23015>

Ray, have you tried right-clicking the icon to Trainz 2004 and setting something in the compatibility tab? You run it compatible with any version of Windows back to Windows 95.

Yes, Forester1, I have tried that on two Windows 10 computers (desktop and laptop), also running as administrator and the result is the same is the same each time - TRS2004 opens as far as presenting the list of routes, then choosing one causes a crash and the program shuts down - but thank you for trying to help.

You need to install DirectX 9c run-time files and run the program with DirectX enabled and not Open/GL.

This is the same for TRS2006 and the others as well through TS12.

Get it here from Microsoft directly.

Problem solved, although trying to download stated that I needed a much earlier version of Windows than W10 to be able to instal. However, this made me look at the TRS2004 settings on my laptop which showed that it was set to OpenGL rather than DirectX. Changing to DirectX enabled TRS2004 to run correctly - so thank you for the pointer, John.

My laptop is quite basic with integrated graphics and will not take later versions of Trainz, although I occasionally like to look back at what I did in my early days. Nostalgia! Fortunately my desktop is quite happy with T:ANE - and no doubt would be with TS19.

Ray

I'm glad I was able to help you with that Ray. The nostalgia factor is great and it makes us laugh sometimes too when we see what we did in the past that we thought was so great compared to our abilities today. My cat whose now 17 and deaf used to come running when she heard the intro video because she liked to watch the aliens bowing to the Auran logo.
