Hi All,
I need some advice please as I'm at a mental crossroads again about what to do regarding Trainz. Due to a HDD crash which corrupted most of what I had in TRS2010, I gave up trying to resurrect the past and just go with the latest version of Trainz (TRS19) and effectively start again *sigh*. But, I am wondering if it is still possible to locate and download TRS10, but with the latest Build Number as opposed to having to download the base version and then locate all the TRS10 Patches/ Build Numbers to get it back to where it was, before my old hard disk crashed.
Before you say anything, I did back up all my files, so in theory it should all have worked, right? Sadly not. I downloaded the Base version off the CD, and then attempted to reinstall all the patches/ Build Number updates and found that Content Manager could not recognise the file formats at all. When I tried to reinstall all my content and my route/ maps, these were deemed to be "broken and/ or missing". A few hundred expletives were uttered and I gave up. When I logged into the Trainz Portal, I could not locate a digital download of TRS10 (I recently moved house and the CD is nowhere to be found sadly). Is TRS10 now too old to be downloaded through official sources or must I look elsewhere? Most Google searches suggest downloading it from the Trainz Portal so a bit confused there.
Anyway, I recently downloaded a copy of TRS19 and am impressed with what I've seen so far. But, a lot of the freeware content I've downloaded from Jointed Rail today, appears in Red Text in Surveyor mode. Great. Back to the bad old days of incompatible content! I'm downloading the dependencies in the hope of getting much of what I want to use, to work properly. The weird thing is that some of the JR freeware content works fine, but others don't. I'd have thought that JR content would be compatible with TRS19 by now given that this new version is not that new.
So, what do you suggest? Is it worth locating & getting TRS10 to work now, or just "86 it" altogether and bugger it off, or settle for TRS19 and make the most of it? I don't want to delete all my old TRS10 content and routes in case there is a way, but I've not been encouraged so far. Are there other additional content sites out there which cater for TRS19, or is it just too new?
Thanks for reading and appreciate any help you can offer.
Cheers,
Rik
