TRS19 REGIONAL EDITIONS

I have to say that I'm utterly unimpressed with TRS19, it's T:ANE SP3 Mk2!

What's the big deal? I ask myself! Where's the 'New Light' as Tony Hilliam puts it - I don't see it! Me thinks I've wasted my money!

I think that 'new light' must be the new soft headlight corona that fades off unlike any headlight anyone's ever seen in real life.

I have T:ANE Rob and I just plain don't use it anymore because I prefer how TS2019 does things. And as can be seen on some old posts of mine on the forum I had a rough start with TS2019 and I was on the brink of binning it and having a good sulk about it. With some helpful advice from some kind forum members I was able to figure out how to make TS2019 work for me and now I absolutely love it.

Not really sure how you cannot see the difference in lighting between the two. It's very easy to pick the two apart. I do think in some instances TRS19 can look washed out but that's down to the way the materials are rendered; if an asset is using a basic material it is interpreted as 100% roughness, which gives the washed out look. Once a new generation of content is hopefully born, this will no longer be an issue.

I'm not sure what you're looking at then. Here's an early (during beta) article with some comparison shots: http://www.trainzportal.com/blog/view/comparison-shots-of-tane-vs-trs2019

(Lot's more went in after this time).

Me thinks I've wasted my money!

Of course you didn't pay solely for the new PBR lighting. There's a huge amount of content and a whole lot of new features as well - check the landing page for more details: http://trs19.trainzportal.com/

I have always been open minded about 19, but after building Riccarton Junction using it, I found that, once certain issues with reflections and shinyness were sorted out, I could reproduce atmosphere and lighting that I previously had not been able to do. I have decided that other things I had been working on will now have to be rebuilt in 2019, making use of PBR textures etc. I chose to buy the package rather than rent, as content is matterless to me, (but I do like Dundee - Edinburgh and Bob Cooper’s Cornwall). I have not even downloaded most of the content when setting up on a new machine. The only niggle is that if I had waited, I could have saved some money with a Regional edition, but hey ho, there are no pockets in shrouds!
Best wishes

Hi

I bought TRS19 as soon as it was released and have never looked back. As far as lighting goes it takes a little bit of experimenting to get it correct for what each individual thinks is right but I've found that the more effort I've put into it the better my results. I also saw a big improvement when my son, who's a keen photographer, profiled my monitor for me as it was way too bright when left at default settings.

I mainly run American routes and rolling stock and such routes as the Powder River Basin (on the DLS) coupled with some of the better rolling stock available, both freeware and payware, really show off what TRS19 is capable of in my opinion.

Personally I think that TRS19 is far superior to Tane to such an extent that I have hardly used Tane since buying TRS19. Tane is only still installed as a source for assets that are not on the DLS.

If you have a minimum spec machine or don't know how to get the best out of TRS19 then I can understand that you may not see any great improvement over Tane.

There are other benefits with TRS19 as well such as better suppression of script errors. I've found that ARN errors in Tane don't occur in TRS19. There could well be other examples but it's that long since I've used Tane that I can't remember what other script errors were regularly thrown up in it.

Regards

Brian

Hi,

In full agreement with the positive comments in this thread. TRS19 has really got my interest back in the game. The TANE version of my route has been left long behind as I've seen a huge uplift in the quality, appearance and performance of the route in TRS19.

Best regards,
Paul

Probably the main reason why I purchased TRS19 was to take advantage of the new routes that are coming out and only made and usable in TRS19 e.g. pflindleys' GCR_V15 and IanOHoseasons' Riccarton Junction amongst others.

Thank you all for your highly subjective replies. I do have a high(ish) spec PC and can probably master the lighting vagaries eventually but, looking at it objectively, I remain unconvinced!

Rob.

Edit: Check this shot by evilcrow, from T:ANE, better than any TRS19 shots I've seen! https://forums.auran.com/trainz/sho...High-resolution-warning&p=1748043#post1748043

Please, could some kind person point me to the ON/OFF switch for the cheesy piano music in TRS19!

Many thanks

Rob.
