Norfolk Southern Trains Taking on Two of the Steepest Active Mainline Grades on NS

Tennessee is home to the Country Music Capital of the World (Nashville), the Birthplace of Rock n' Roll (Memphis), America's Secret City (Oak Ridge), The Scenic City (Chattanooga), and The Birthplace of Country Music (Bristol Tennessee/Virginia). It is also home to two of the steepest active mainline grades on Norfolk Southern entirety - Chestnut Ridge and Copper Ridge Grades. Chestnut Ridge has an average grade over its entire length of 1.7%. Since Saluda Grade is no longer used, Copper Ridge Grade has the steepest active mainline grade on Norfolk Southern' entire network of mainlines, maxing out at 3.53%.
