Skipper's freeware GWR king George V has been updated into payware.

In the latest Dundee build I note that skipper1945's GWR King George V has been reissued as payware and the kuid updated to kuid2:116296:19999:11 instead of kuid2:116296:19999:10. It can no longer be edited.

In the config file it still states the following:

'author "skipper1945"
organisation "UKBL"
contact-email "george.bailes@ntlworld.com"

These files are freeware. UK Branch Lines strictly prohibits any action that results in gain through sale or reward in any way.

What is happening here please, and will other free assets become purely payware?

When a freeware asset is uploaded, as part of the terms and conditions, you agree that N3V can do with your asset as they wish. This includes use as a future payware item. If you need the freeware one, it's still available.
cheers

Graeme --

The freeware may still be available, but if it's :10 and the session requires :11 you do need the payware :11 to make the session work.

Actually, one way of overcoming this would be to edit :10 to make it :12. If the session asks for :11 it will accept :12.

Firstly the OP needs glasses, it's a Builtin NOT payware.
Secondly it is fully editable if you have images2TGA, just checked.
And it's not payware locked either.
Not in Dundee either, GWR on the ECML? Try the Cornwall route and v10 was a builtin in TANE with the Tane version of the Cornwall Route, which incidentally is a free route no charge for it.

Nothing to see here......... ;)

Just because they can is no reason to do it. There's no point in making it built-in if it is already available as freeware on the LDS. Users should not have to jump through hoops in order to restore the status quo. If updates were needed it can be put back on the DLS as an ordinary upgrade.

Look at Malc's post #6 above.

This "issue" has cropped up on several threads usually with cries of "the sky is falling" and "conspiracies" to convert all freeware to payware. From the very few examples I have seen (1 on my system with over 440k assets and a few in these forums - hardly a case of the "affected assets ... seriously underestimated") all seem to be freely available on the DLS.

This does become an issue though when an asset is moved to payware and is no longer available anywhere else. Take the following missing drivers:

<kuid:523:19723459> Roger
<kuid:523:19723435> JD
<kuid:523:19723427> Evgeniy
<kuid:523:19723441> Juan
<kuid:523:19723433> Itareus
<kuid:523:19723461> Santi
<kuid:523:19723437> John
<kuid:523:19723463> Therese
<kuid:523:19723455> Pier Luigi

All these drivers were once freely available, worked in sessions created in TS12, worked fine in T:ANE until recently, and now there are updates which has moved these to payware and all inactive, which causes me to now have 33 broken sessions due to missing drivers including sessions that came with my payware routes I purchased from Jointed Rail for the Eagle River and Pennsylvania and Berwind.

Another I came across was a bogey for a some North American freight wagons. Now it's payware and inactive, which broke 120 assets for me I purchased as a pack, or came as freeware for routes made for Jointed Rail. I ended up doing some hunting around in my downloads and so happened to have the original and I imported that and fixed the missing bogey.

This is the stuff that's annoying. If N3V is going to release a payware route and sessions, why package everything? What did they go in to Content Manager and select all assets and rip them up into the package, or do a *.* import from a command prompt? Seriously the right way to do this is to only mark the route it self, or proprietary assets as payware/DLC, and leave the other stuff as it was. I've said this before but this point seems to get ignored every time I bring it up.

Thanks for the information ingha.

Fyi, this change in status is not intentional, but rather a by-product of our build process based upon the origins of the content (i.e. if it is not on the DLS, it will be marked builtin/payware).

In this case we had repaired the item internally and it had not yet been uploaded to the DLS. We've now uploaded it so it should be up there very shortly.

Due to the volume of content we do fix, when it is fixed, when it is tested an when the content build is done, sometimes an asset might not make it up to the DLS.

Please continue to send through any assets that you find marked "builtin" that are not on the DLS as we definitely want any updates back on the DLS for everyone to enjoy.

That the asset is also on the DS does not resolve the problem. If you intend that the user should be able to download a freeware replacement from the DLS then the payware must be deletable.

In my TRS19 install Theresa is the only one of those listed and "she" is described as "Installed, missing dependencies, payware". I have nothing in TRS19 that is described as "Installed, payware (inactive)".

In my TANE install, I have no "Installed, payware (inactive)" assets but 30 labeled as "Incompatible, payware (not active)" all build 4.6.

<kuid2:523:19723091:1> Plant ChollaCactus 01 - built-in in TS12 now missing, work fine as built-in in T:ANE, but now missing in TRS2019
<kuid:523:19723459> Roger

Dang it! No. No matter what I try I cannot reproduce the result. I will keep an eye out and if it does occur again I will copy and paste into a bug report.

I can in TANE, however they are not installed in TANE, just search on Payware and nothing else, not sure what this has to do with TRS19 though?

Getting back on topic i.e. skipper1945's KG V model:

I note that this has appeared on the DLS with updated kuid number "kuid2:116296:19999:11" , previously kuid2:116296:19999:10.

I'm aware that this so called update is not a result of skipper1945's work but N3V's modifying it so as to include it in a payware route for TS2019 and, as such, am I safe to download it as a legitimate update to the current version, i.e. kuid2:116296:19999:10, in to T:ANE?

Rob.

Yes, I've already downloaded it.

Thanks Malc. I can now reproduce on demand the same list. Bug report submitted.
