Interesting to see the US date commemoration. Here in Gt Britain we have a very special day with markings all over the country at war memorials along with parades. This year was special as we had marked the 100th year to the day last Sundayre the Armistice on 11 November 1918 with the extra special event when the Royal family are at the famous cenotaph in London. A limit of 10,000 ex-servicemen (limited to that) then after it supporters separately. Representatives of the Commonwealth take part and also lay wreaths as there countries were so much part of WW1 as Empire associates. We wear red poppies for that annual event and so so with pride.

The BBC had a moving documentary to commemorate, called "They shall not grow old". It used WW1 film coloured and the commentary was entirely by WW1 servicemen. Of interest to we train enthusiasts was that at about 48 minutes in there were some shots of the Western Front narrow gauge railways including shots of Baldwin 4-6-0s and British Westinghouse petrol electric locos. Unfortunately for some reason it will not be available on Iplayer after tomorrow rather than the normal 30days.
