Not sure how accurate the results are, for example multiplying 20lb x gradient in % and dividing that into tractive effort would allow a single SD40 to haul 2052 tonnes up a 2% (1 in 50) gradient, albeit not very fast. One assumes real railroads/railways would apply a margin of error and work on 22 or 23lb as the base figure.

Nevertheless could be useful for those of us trying to create accurate consists and allocate the correct motive power to operate over our mountainous routes.
