1860's, 1870's war tank wagon, Central Pacific RR

Hi all,
I have seen them made by Bachmann and tyco some railway wagons for transporting water in the 1860's/1870's standard gauge. They are basically flat cars with two or three watertanks on the bed. The tanks appear to be basically just like the watertanks on the right of ways. More recently MTL released one too.
Looking on the web I can not find a prototype of them. I am sure they (Bachmann) took some liberties in their design but sure they had something of a prototype to base them on.
Any ideas , plans or photos of them at all?

I've seen at least one photo, but I don't appear to have a digital version. When I get home next week, I'll find it for you.

Still narrow gauge and not Central Pacific but always nice to see that my memory is not totally failing.

What a 24 hours,
I went from wondering for a long time if these tank cars were mythical to finally finding 4 source photos, (Alfred Hart, https://purl.stanford.edu/nj339gb1246 ) card 319 is the best for details, and 315 shows they were hauled in bulk. , and then learning they were knockoff's of the Densmore patent and oil cars that came out in 1865. The C.P.'s used two slightly differing styles evidenced from the photos by Hart.
Now just looking for measurements or plans, I think our Central Pacific could use some water
Winnemucca. ( or Densmore wagon if you model early oil)
thank you all for your continued help.

319 is the photo I've seen. I also found a photo of one outside the CP shops in Sacramento, but again, it's an offline copy.
Looking at 319, it looks like a standard 30' flat car with the water tanks on top (you can even see the light on the side sills from the deck cutouts for the 4 stakes, though the stake pockets have been removed). Width of the deck would be 8.5'.
I have a 30' CP flat model I'm finishing up; I can send you a copy if you'd like a head start on building one of those water cars.
There's also some more information about CP flat cars at http://www.pacificng.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=1033

Those were interesting, I wonder why they had such a robust under structure. If you skip ahead you will see what I think might be a square tank car in cards 351 and 352, clearly has a hatch on top like Ben's SP model. (note which locomotive is hauling it :D)

I like that add on with Ben's wagon. What happened to Ben?
for pencil, I would be a fool to say no to such a kind offer. Thank you
Can you send it to my dad;s email, whecsailor MSN com?

Of course! Sorry about my full inbox; I cleared a couple messages out, so it should be under the limit again.

That water car looks great, Norm!

Sadly Ben Dorsey passed away a while ago. I didn't do anything to Ben's water car other than hook it up to Jupiter. It would need to be raised a bit and standard gauge bogies to really match. It does look good with trainboi1's SP narrowgauge though.

The square one is on my list for the Promontory project; I have to finish the Subsistence car first.....

It appears that at least one of these cars (Hart 323) has a flat iron strap that bolts into the side bolster just before the trucks instead of a tie rod...
