So that's why the bar at the pub seemed empty this afternoon. I wondered where they all went:)

Not a problem Norm.

Yet other firefighting teams from DownUnder are heading further north to Canada today as well to fight the wildfires there...

Couldn't have anything to do with it being winter DownUnder could it? :hehe:

A team from Victoria was here in Calistoga, Ca last year. I didn't meet them since I had been evacuated but they helped save my town.

In theory yes, but it looks like the summer bushfire season here is already underway - in winter! It has been so dry here, and most (~95%) of my home state is in the grip of the worst drought in 50+ years that there have already been a few outbreaks of the sort of wildfires that we normally would expect to see towards the end of summer. It is not looking good for the next 6 months.

Ditto on the outside help,

I live in So California, and as you know, our State is in serious trouble, due more the fact, those in the know have failed miserably to understand the proper way to maintain our Forests, so now they have upset mother nature to the point that she is taking over what should have been done over the last 100 yrs, a true tragedy which will cost us dearly for many years to come........

During this last weekend in the Mountains, I had a most interesting conversation about just this point of failure to maintain the National Forest properly...........

But this ship has sailed, so hopefully in our future, things will be handled differently.

I say a prayer for the many families that lost their Homes this week ,and the Dedicated Firefighters who gave their lives in performance of their duties............

You are not alone in that. Our firefighters have always used the winter months, weather permitting, to burn out the thick undergrowth that acts as fuel for these summer wildfires. The burns are always low intensity, well supervised and mimic what the indigenous populations have done for thousands of years. Unfortunately they produce a lot of smoke in urban areas and that leads to complaints from residents to the point that some of the burns have not been conducted as they should have. So some bush areas close to residential homes now have a dangerous build up of fire fuel just waiting for an ignition.
