ATSF 2918 descends Cajon Pass, passing over Rt 66 at Gish, California, with 96 cars destined for the Los Angeles area. The 2900 class northerns were the heaviest passenger locomotives ever built, with the engine and tender together weighing over 970,000 lbs. It's the spring of 1945, and the 2900s are still largely assigned to freight service due to wartime restrictions, however peacetime, and by extension passenger service, are just around the corner, and the ATSF will have played its part in helping the Allies win the war.
