Compatability of old routes

Hi guys
Yeah, i know i have done a similar post in the past, but i thought i would bring it up again.
Out of curiosity, why is it that pre TS2004 routes dont work in TS2010 but do in TS12. Something about utilisation?

Not quite sure what you've been smoking their young Simon, but your post just doesn't make sense. A route pre-2004 that works in TS2012, will work in TS2010. If it doesn't work in TS2010, it certainly won't work in TS2012. Especially if it is above TS2012 49922. Once you get above TS2012 49922 you loose the old "compatibility mode" for a lot of the older content.

A lot of the earlier routes in UTC, TRS2004, TRS2006, TS2009, TS2010, worked OK in TS2012 49922 Ver 3.6. Once you got above that, you are in TS2012 SP1 to SP1 HF4. Ver 3.7

I would luv you to prove me wrong with a couple of examples of old pre-2004 routes that work in 12, but not in 10.

I have been wrong before, but the last time was back in 1987. Just kidding, I'm wrong nearly all the time. :hehe:

Cheers, Mac...

Just a pound of coke, the usual :hehe::hehe:

I dont claim to understand it either Mac! What i was meaning was with routes such as lightrail's 'Camel Fowey-Newquay' if you go into explorer it comes up camelfowey.trk, when in later versions its mapfile.trk. In TS12 it is simply asset filename camelfowey. Wierd....

Another example is Hooverman's 'ECML South' (Although this is an easier fix, considering that the whole ECML is now available and very highly detailed)
As i say, just curious really.

Best Wishes Simon :D

That change from memory came in around TS2009 so it should be the same in both TS2010 and TS12 (although it was also around that time that asset-filename became obsolete).

asset-filename tag that refers to the mesh for the models was changed to the mesh-table structure, which allows for a lot more flexibility and options.

I have loaded routes in from TRS2004 into TS12 61388. The trees were ugly, but it loaded up. When saved to the Build 61388 version (3.7), there was a thumbnail error and a region error that needed repairing, but other than those it loaded up.

Using TS2010 or TS12 as a go-between, it's quite easy to take an early route such as a TRS2004 route from 2003 and import it into T:ANE. (Food for thought).

I have come across an old route that crashes TS2009and TS2010, but loads up error-free, but incomplete, in TS12. If the asset you refer to is on the DLS then provide a KUID and someone might check whether it has an internal error that is creating the oddity you are seeing.

Hi Bob
Not that it matters too much but it is 'Camel Fowey Newquay' by lightrail. <kuid:49340:100386>
Best, Simon

It fits the pattern I have seen before - a build 1.3 route that loads in TS12 but is missing assets (this one loads about 90 of the 223 that are listed) and it crashes in TS2010. I have no idea what the problem is, but if it affects a number of these older routes it would be good to find out the cause.
