In Ian Drummond's book Southern Rails On Southampton Docks there is a photograph of British Railways Class 5 loco No.73155 in Southampton Docks, taken in April 1967. It's smokebox number plate has a red background rather than the normal black one, something I have never seen before. Does anybody know why it was red and also was it unique?
